DC and AT&T Team to Bring ‘The Batman Experience Powered by AT&T’ to Comic-Con

DC and AT&T are teaming up in a special way to celebrate Batman’s 80th birthday at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con. THE BATMAN EXPERIENCE Powered By AT&T will be an immersive pop-up museum and gaming-centric installation that will include a VR skydiving experience, a Batcave, The Rogue Gallery Rumble, and more. THE BATMAN EXPERIENCE will be open to the public at the Comic-Con Museum in Balboa Park at 10 am PT from Thursday, July 18th through Sunday, July 21st. An SDCC badge will not be required to enter the free exhibition.

The massive, interactive exhibition will include the largest ever collection of Batman-related props, costumes, and vehicles, and will take fans on an epic journey to the crime-fighting world of the Dark Knight. THE BATMAN EXPERIENCE was custom-built by AT&T in partnership with DC and will include activities throughout a massive 68,000 square feet of space, on all three floors of the Museum. There will be a sneak peek of the exhibition given to attendees at a special ceremony inducting Batman into the Comic-Con Museum Character Hall of Fame, The Gathering, which will take place on Wednesday, July 17th at 5 pm. It will be the first time a comic book character has been given that honor. For tickets, you can visit ccmgathering.org.

DC Publisher and Chief Creative Officer, who contributed several original pieces to the exhibition, said the exhibition was part of DC pulling out all the stops to celebrate Batman’s 80th birthday, along with with dozens of panels, and a newly expanded booth that is the largest on the convention center floor. Lee’s work includes the original artwork commissioned exclusively for the commemorative program guide cover celebrating Comic-Con International’s milestone 50th anniversary.

The team at AT&T is equally committed to making this celebration one that people will not forget. AT&T’s SVP of Advertising and Creative Services, Valerie Vargas, spoke about their involvement, stating “We’re honored to have a role in celebrating Batman’s induction into the Comic-Con Museum Character Hall of Fame, and we wanted to celebrate this iconic Super Hero in a way that is unique to what AT&T has the power to do. THE BATMAN EXPERIENCE will be an epic, fan-centric activation showcasing how creativity and innovative technology can unlock new opportunities for fans, allowing them to engage and interact with Batman in a whole new way.”

Other featured elements of THE BATMAN EXPERIENCE include:

-A one of a kind VR skydiving experience into Gotham City called “The Dark Knight Dive,” that will be the centerpiece attraction of the exhibition. Combining the physics of a skydive booth with the tech magic of VR goggles and a helmet shaped like the Batman cowl, fans will be taken through a 4D interactive experience. The visitors will be virtually flying through Gotham City, pursuing the Scarecrow, who is attempting to take over the city by unleashing his Fear gas, creating a harrowing journey through 80 years of Batman’s friends and foes.

-The Batcave gaming lounge will contain every generation of Batman video and arcade games directly from DC’s archives, including Warner Bros. titles such as Batman The Brave And The Bold (on Wii or 3DS), Lego Batman 3 (PS4), Batman: Arkham Knight

(PS4), and Injustice 2 (PS4), which will all be available for play at the exhibition.

-Hundreds of unique pieces of legendary DC comic book art and large-scale film and television props, including several from Tim Burton’s epic “Batman” film, such as the Batmobile and the Batsuit worn by Michael Keaton in the film. The groundbreaking film is celebrating its own 30th anniversary this year. Along with these classic pieces will be a new car created by the geniuses at “Wayne Technology” that will give fans a sneak peek of their future entertainment experiences in autonomous cars with 5G.

-The Rogue Gallery Rumble will be an interactive punching bag experience, using projection mapping and lights to trigger iconic and classic animations and sounds throughout the space. Be prepared to hear a lot of “WHAAM! KABOOM! POW!”

-A special 6 foot tall Batman Black & White Statue designed by acclaimed artist and writer Todd McFarlane, which will be unveiled on July 17th, marking the 100th statue in the line. The one and only life-sized version of the 100th statue will be on display throughout SDCC along with the other 99 Batman Black & White figures from DC Collectibles.

DC Published Dan DiDio summed it up perfectly in saying “There isn’t a single fictional character that has endured and influenced pop culture like Batman has and this exhibition is a fitting tribute to that. You get to experience Batman’s 80 years across every medium, from comic books to television to film and video games.” We can’t wait to see everything up close and in action.
