The Flash 2.22 “Invincible” Promo

The Flash is reaching the end of its second season and next week’s episode is going to be another huge episode, especially if you are a fan of Katie Cassidy! After tonight’s episode “The Runaway Dinosaur”, the CW aired a promo for the 22nd episode of Season 2 titled “Invincible” which is the penultimate episode before the season finale. This episode will feature Katie Cassidy as the Earth-2 version of Dinah Laurel Lance who in this universe goes by Black Siren instead of Black Canary.

You can check out the promo below along with the official description for the episode from The CW.

“KATIE CASSIDY GUEST STARS AS BLACK SIREN – After Zoom (guest star Teddy Sears) unleashes an army of Earth-2 meta-humans on Central City, Barry (Grant Gustin) is shaken when he sees their leader is the Black Canary’s Earth-2 doppelganger, the Black Siren (guest star Katie Cassidy). Meanwhile, Wally (Keiynan Lonsdale) takes to the streets to help The Flash stop the meta-humans, which worries Joe (Jesse L. Martin). Iris (Candice Patton) and Henry (guest star John Wesley Shipp) are concerned about Barry taking on Zoom. Jesse Warn directed the episode with story by Greg Berlanti & Andrew Kreisberg and teleplay by Brooke Roberts & David Kob (FL222). Original airdate 5/17/2016.”

So who is Black Siren in the DC Universe? While Black Siren doesn’t exist in the comics, Donna Nance a.k.a. Black Siren made her debut in Justice League Unlimited in the 2-parter titled “Legends”, written by The Flash’s executive producer and show-runner Andrew Kreisberg. Those episodes featured the Justice Guild, that was the show’s take on the Justice Society of America and Black Siren was based on the Golden Age version of Black Canary, Dinah Drake (who is played by Alex Kingston in the Flarrow-Verse).

Interesting comic trivia: Dinah Drake a.k.a. Black Canary made her debut in Flash Comics #86 in a backup story about Johnny Thunder where she pretended to be a villain in order to infiltrate a criminal gang. While not defined as Earth-2 at first, it was eventually revealed that she lived on Earth-2 with the JSA. In #74 of Justice League of America, Dinah moves to Earth-1 after the death of her husband Larry Lance. It was when she joined the Justice League that she also met Oliver Queen, the Green Arrow and started a relationship with him.

The Flash airs on Tuesday nights at 8/7c on The CW.
