DISCLAIMER: This casting news features major spoilers for a character that will be in Season 3 of The Flash – you have officially been warned.
Last month, actor Todd Lasance (The Vampire Diaries, Spartacus) was spotted on the set of The Flash in a dark evil speedster costume. There were several ideas to who this character could be as he was also spotted in San Diego Comic-Con Season 3 trailer.
At the TCA Summer Press Tour, it was confirmed that Savitar will be one of the two big bads this season, but still nothing was said about who is in the suit. Earlier today, Greg Berlanti cleared up some misleading reports about Savitar as we now know that he has yet to be cast and is not the speedster in the trailer.
So who is Lasance playing? It was finally confirmed that Lasance is joining the show as a different Flash villain with TV Line confirming with Warner Bros. TV and The CW that he is actually playing The Rival. In the comics, the Rival was actually a speedster villain of Jay Garrick, the Golden Age Flash. TV Line also confirmed that we will be seeing Rival in several episodes as Lasance will be recurring.
“Blinded by anger, Barry unwittingly plays into Zoom’s game and uncovers the evil speedster’s true goal: to destroy all Earths in the multiverse. In the race of his life, Barry ultimately gets the upper hand against Zoom and defeats his nemesis. But unable to celebrate victory, Barry makes a world-shaking decision and speeds back in time to the night his mother died to stop Reverse Flash from killing her, irrevocably changing his past and redetermining his future.”
The Flash Season 3 premieres on Tuesday, October 4 at 8/7c on The CW.
