SMALL UPDATE 2017/11/06: Several trades such as Deadline, Variety, The Hollywood Reporter, have reached out The CW and Warner Bros. TV for comments about Miller’s future with the Arrowverse, but unfortunately no answers yet. Original story below.
The Flash and Legends of Tomorrow fans, as well as Arrowverse viewers in general, may need to prepare to grab some tissues. While a new version of Leonard Snart a.k.a. Captain Cold is showing up this season in the Arrowverse, he might not be sticking around for long.
It became clear we’d see Wentworth Miller back in the DC TV world when The CW released the artwork for Crisis On Earth-X, the upcoming 4-show crossover. In the artwork, Captain Cold can be spotted on the left side with the other heroes against the Earth-X villains. So while we don’t know what new version we’re getting of him, you’ll see him at the end of November.
But earlier today Miller posted on his Instagram that he was currently wrapping episodes on both Legends of Tomorrow and The Flash. More importantly, the Prison Break star stated that he is shooting his final episodes as the beloved Flash character.
While it’d be easy to assume that maybe Miller only meant wrapping his episodes for 2017…the phrasing of Miller’s post sounds like a departure. It remains to be seen if he is talking about wrapping filming on post-crossover episodes for The Flash and Legends of Tomorrow. The chances are – this is just speculative – that Miller is doing work on the crossover.
Based on Arrow/Legends of Tomorrow showrunner Marc Guggenheim’s recent tweet, it would appear that the DC TV shows are shooting their respective midseason premieres. The only way he could be working on both shows at the same time, not being the crossover, is if the character has a smaller role in one of the episodes and has a larger presence in the other.
But regardless what it’s that he’s filming, it’d appear that Miller is leaving the Arrowverse. There is no information at this moment to what is the cause of this departure, whether it be Miller’s availability or something else. Should anything be revealed to indicate that Miller isn’t departing the DC world, we’ll update this story.
